MobileMe isn’t just an e-mail service. It is so much more than the average person thinks. You can use MobileMe to find your lost iPhone or iPad, keep your contacts, calendars, and e-mail synced across a plethora of devices. You can use the iDisk to store and share files wirelessly and across long distances quickly (similar to Dropbox).
When most people look at MobileMe, they only see the e-mail capabilities. Truthfully, this is what MobileMe mainly is to me, an e-mail service. But it is an e-mail service on steroids. You can quickly keep your e-mail account synced and automatically push them to your iPhone and iPad. That means you don’t need to open the Mail app on your iDevice, wait for it to connect to the servers, then download the e-mail. It’s there with no waiting at all.
With MobileMe, you can easily find your lost iPhone or iPad. Just go to any computer, go to me.com, login, click on “Find My iPhone,” and it’s as easy as that. It works by accessing the GPS chip inside of your iDevice and it finds it. You will be very grateful when you find your device that you spent a good amount of cash on.
MobileMe also keeps your Contacts and Calendars synced on all your devices. Therefore, when ever you add a new event from your Mac or PC (yes, it works on PC), it will be pushed right to iPhone or iPad. This also works from iDevice to Mac or PC as well. Now you don’t have to remember to add an event to your phone’s calendar after you have already added the same event to your desktop.
iDisk is a very useful part of MobileMe. Just like Dropbox, you can upload file that you may need at anytime. If you forget your USB flash drive, you can open up MobileMe on any web browser and download the file as long as you have put it on your iDisk. The iDisk has 20GB of online storage that comes with your MobileMe subscription. This is plenty of space just for files that you may need. You can also download the iDisk App for your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to manage your files on the go or where ever there is Wi-Fi.
